BP presents Bursary Awards to oil and gas students

BP today presented its bursary awards to a group of first-year students specializing in petro-technical disciplines at five local universities - the Azerbaijan State Oil Academy, Qafqaz University, the Architecture University, Baku State University and Khazar University.

Some 31 top students representing the five selected universities today received bursary awards during a BP-hosted event in Baku. These are first-year students with the highest university admission scores specialising in 11 petro-technical disciplines – petroleum engineering, geology, geophysical engineering,ge mechanical engineering, electrical (energy) engineering, chemical engineering, pipeline engineering, civil engineering, process automation engineering, instrument and control, as well as corrosion and inspection.
The bursary awards presented today will provide these students with an opportunity to improve their technical English language skills through BP-funded 10-month training, which will be a valuable addition to their high-level technical knowledge.

In Azerbaijan, BP’s bursary programme started in 2007. It aims to support the best students who are pursuing education in oil and gas related studies. These awards are annual and are part of the company’s wider commitment to supporting education in Azerbaijan.
Overall to date BP has presented its bursary awards to 337 top students of whom eight have then been successful in pursuing their careers within BP and are currently BP’s employees, three are BP and its co-venturers’ Graduate Scholarship recipients.
Addressing the ceremony, Greg Riley, Vice President, Exploration and Appraisal, said: “This year BP celebrates its 20th anniversary in Azerbaijan. We are delighted to mark this important milestone in our history with a series of remarkable events that clearly highlight BP’s commitment to Azerbaijan and its intention to remain the country’s reliable oil and gas partner for many years to come.

I am pleased to be able to state that this year our traditional bursary awards programme has been expanded to cover four other universities in addition to the Oil Academy. However, I am also delighted to say that this leading petroleum specialising university of Azerbaijan still remains the top participant in our programme with 14 out of 31 selected students coming from the Oil Academy. This year’s programme has one more improvement which will allow the selected first year students to benefit from their awards right at the beginning of their studies while they are in their first year. I would like to congratulate all the 31 students on their bursary awards which are yet recognition of the successful start of their long journey into petro-technical studies”.
