Qafqaz University has been providing the highest standards in education in Azerbaijan for its students since 1993.
In addition to this high quality tuition, emphasis is put on the preparation of students for a successful career in this world of opportunity.
Aim: The university strives to develop the special talents of each individual student whilst giving them an appreciation of much larger global considerations. It is hoped this will enable them to recognize career opportunities later as they arise. Emphasis on the development of language skills is one of the ways we go about this.
Modern Technology & Teaching Methods: The university is fully equipped throughout all of the departments with high specification computers and internet access. In all walks of life the modern world demands computer skills therefore training commences at Qafqaz at the earliest time. As well as dedicated computer rooms / laboratories, students have access to a general computer room throughout the day.
The System of Education: Modeled on the western system the results have been so successful that the Ministry of Education of Azerbaijan states its appreciation on every occasion. Qafqaz has achieved this position with the unique privilege of having been titled the Pilot Private University. Students participate in a one year preparation course in English, Turkish, and / or Azerbaijani and then continue their education in one of these. The medium is English in the Departments of Mathematics, Computer Engineering, English Language and Literature, Translation, Regional Studies, and Physics.
ECTS: The university has been offering the credit system since the day it was opened, and starting from 2007-2008 it began to apply ECTS in all departments, creating opportunities for student and faculty mobility and exchange.
Programs for International Students: International students are welcome to receive high quality education in departments where the medium is English. The facilities and the warm atmosphere make the adaptation process of the international students easier. The students are required by the state to have one year of Azerbaijani Language, the core subjects related to their department, and English Language if they do not hold a TOEFL iBT score of at least 70.
Library: Qafqaz University library has established a unique relationship with libraries throughout the world giving its students access to a rich source of books, periodicals, and magazines. Through databases including EBSCO Host, BioOne, Cambridge University Press, Oxford Reference Online, Institute of Physics Publishing, Encyclopedia Britannica Online, the students and the faculty can access 295 electronic references & books, 285 newspapers, and 14581 journals through the electronic library system.
Extracurricular Activities: Students have a wide range of activities and clubs to choose from that include indoor and outdoor sports, traditional dance, drama, charity, business world relations, ecology, literature, law, music, technology, thought, folk instruments, and publishing. Societies and clubs in a wide field of interests are organized and run by the students themselves.
Health Services: All students have access to free medical examination by qualified doctors at the campus Medical Centre.
Quality Management System: Qafqaz University is the first and the only university that obtained ISO 9000:2001 Quality Management System Certificate that plays an important role in the administration process.
Summer School: Summer school is an essential part of the credit system. Along with the subjects offered in the curriculum, the university also organizes summer schools for international students willing to learn about Azerbaijan and the whole region as well as Azerbaijani Language.
Scholarships: Striving to achieve a certain degree of quality, the university offers many scholarship opportunities including discounts and scholarships according to the mark attained in the university entrance exam, sibling discounts, discounts for sister institutions, scholarships for social activities, and scholarships for the top students in departments.
Institute for Caucasus Research: The institute carries out research about the history of the South Caucasus. Books are written, films are made, conferences and seminars are organized to enlighten the history of the region. The Institute also organizes events where eminent people are invited and asked to give talks on the South Caucasus.
Institute for Social and Positive Sciences: Institute for Social and Positive Sciences offers Master’s and doctoral programs including an MBA program delivered in English.
Centers
Career Planning Center & the Alumni: CPC focuses on organizing job fairs and tours to let the students meet with the business world. It also organizes workshops in order for the students to learn how to write a CV, interview strategies, etc. The center keeps track of the graduates and struggles to help them get better in their career. The alumni get together regularly with the center’s effort and while enjoying parties they also discuss what they can do to promote the university.
Continuous Development Center: The center offers workshops and seminars to the business world in Azerbaijan and abroad in a wide range of titles. The center also deals with consultancy and project management. CDC offers seminars and job fairs to the students in order for them to get acquainted with the companies.
Translation Center:The need for translation in all areas is obvious as Azerbaijan is moving towards the West. The center deals with the translation requests coming from within and outside the university. Translations are done professionally by skilled translators.
Center for Municipal Research:The center has been playing an important role in the transition process from central administration into local administrations. A great deal of conferences, symposiums, and workshops have been handled by the center that also helps issue a periodical.
Coordinating Unit for Language Teaching (CULT) deals with the language teaching process for the first year students and coordinates vocational English Language classes delivered in the departments. CULT students enjoy computer assisted language teaching through high capacity computers, data projectors, and 7.1 sound systems present in 23 classrooms. CULT also utilizes a multi purpose hall with a computer, a projector, and a quality sound system where the students have the chance to hold quiz shows, drama performances, and to watch movies.
Student Information System: To reduce the paperwork and increase the efficiency in the whole educational process, the university’s data processing center has developed a piece of software for the students to take / drop lessons, learn their marks, participate in questionnaires, follow announcements, access electronic resources, etc.
Personnel Information System: In the same way, the faculty can access the electronic library, enter exam results, track student information, participate in questionnaires, etc.
Apprenticeship: The university offers apprenticeship programs at the premises as well as in distinguished institutions and companies abroad in an ever-increasing number every year.
TOEFL iBT: The university has been an ETS authorized TOEFL iBT center since 2006. The exams are taken in Gәhrәmәn Binnәtli Computer Lab within the premises.
CISCO Center: CISCO programs are offered in FAB CISCO Laboratory adding to the prestige of the university.
Academic Life: The university has mainly two periodicals namely Journal of Qafqaz, - Science, and Journal of Qafqaz – Social Sciences. Along with these journals there are several other journals, magazines, bulletins published regularly as well as quite a number of books in various academic fields, translations and course materials.
Sports: Physical Education is a compulsory two – year subject, and on top of that, the university offers participation in football, volleyball, basketball, table tennis, and wrestling teams.
International Relations
Office for International Relations: The office deals with the admission and orientation of the international students. It also offers assistance in writing funding projects for the departments and helps with the organization of international conferences. The office is responsible for carrying out the correspondence for academic cooperation with the international institutions.
